Unexpected heartache

It's definitely no secret that I do not enjoy nursing. I think it has to do with the fact that I'm not a touchy person, and I don't like pulling my shirt up every couple of hours. But here's the thing...I finally talked to the Dr. yesterday about all the stomach issues that Macy is having and he suggested either switching to soy formula or eating a very very bland diet. No eggs, wheat, milk, vegetables, peanuts, or citrus fruit. Basically he meant don't eat anything. Well, that's not entirely true, he did suggest mashed potatoes and chicken broth. Mmmmm my mouth is watering just thinking about it.

So when I got home I decided to see if she would take a bottle of formula for me. Up until now it's been kind of a fight to get her to take a bottle with breast milk in it, so I wasn't very optimistic about soy formula. Which if you can believe smells even worse than the regular stuff.

She did surprisingly well. She latched on immediately and drank the whole thing like it's what she's been doing for three months. And today she has not had any gas issues at all. Hurray!!

She has been doing a lot of crying in between the feedings though, and hasn't slept for more than thirty minutes at a time. I really do think in the long run this is going to be the best thing for her and me, but tonight I find myself feeling sad, like I've lost something special that I didn't know I even wanted.

I know giving her a bottle doesn't make me a bad Mom, but it does feel like it just a little bit.

My name is trouble

Do you believe for one second that this sweet little innocent boy could cause enough trouble to get kicked out of Primary two weeks in a row?

O.K. it's totally believable. What am I going to do with him!?

Spirit Week?

Can you have spirit week in preschool? Apparently the answer is yes. I decided that I would be a fun mom though and roll with it. Today was crazy shoe day, so instead of just having Samm wear two different shoes like all the other boring moms, I got out the hot glue gun and let Samm go to work. She did a pretty dang good job too.

And we did some meditating today as well, just to relieve a little bit of stress.

I would say it worked pretty good.

The mystery revealed

After a day filled with anticipation and a lot of hair cuts (both good and exhausting) Oh, and me prodding for clues. We put on our fine trousers, got the kids pj'd up and headed over to Grandma's house to drop off the little ones.

Of course I had been trying to guess all day where we were going, and I was convinced that we were headed down town to the performing arts center. I am fortunate to have a husband who enjoys cultural events now and then and has taken me to some really great performances. Most recently was the Ten Tennors, who were awesome and I would highly recommend going to see them if you have the chance.

However, we ended up at The River Walk in Jenks. A fun little place on the Arkansas river with shops and restaurants. And in we went to a really nice fondue restaurant called The Melting Pot.

Neither of us had ever been there before, so we had to have everything explained to us, but it was so much fun.

The first course they bring out is the cheese. They have five or six kinds to choose from and the waiter makes it right there at your table. They bring you apples, bread, and fresh veggies to dip in the cheese and it was delicious.

Next they brought out our salads, and then the main course which was probably the most fun of all. All the meat is raw, and they replaced the pot of cheese with a pot of some sort of broth with herbs and spices in it for us to cook the meat in. Josh's favorite was by far the lobster tail.

At this point I was so full I didn't think I would be able to eat anything else, but who can say no to a warm pot of chocolate!

We devoured this whole plate and wished there was more.

The whole dinner takes about two hours to enjoy, but hardly seemed that long at all. It was so much fun to sit and relax and just talk. Poor little Macy is having some stomach issues today because of it, (There wasn't really a non-dairy option on the menu.) But not as bad as I would have thought.

And the price...Well let's just say on the way to the car we wished each other a happy anniversary, Josh wished me a happy birthday, and I congratulated him on finishing his finals, because we can't afford to go out for the rest of the year now. It was totally worth is though!

Mystery Date

What is more fun than a date with my husband? When he calls me and says "we have to be some where at 8:30, and dress nice." I thought we were going to do the old dinner and a movie thing tonight, but this is much more exciting. I'll let you know tomorrow how this mystery unfolds.

Things are looking up

For some reason, the last several days I have been feeling a little bit blue. No major incidents to speak of, just hormonal stuff I think. However, I got to play hair this afternoon which is always fun. Then I went to young womens and had a nice chat with a good friend. I scheduled some more hair fun for tommorrow with that good friend. And now I am daydreaming about finally using my Christmas present for this...

And a little bit of this...

I think I'll wait though until after I spend a week in Florida with my Mom and Sister and after I come back from a week in Cancun with all of Josh's family (minus the kids.)

Yes, I am definitely feeling much better this evening.

Why we do it...and why we don't

Why is it that we as people always seem to have a knack for stating the obvious? If you walk into a room that's dark, even though everyone knows that it's dark in there, someone has to pipe up and say "wow it's really dark in here." I'm not saying that I'm innocent of this very thing I'm just wondering why we do it.

Why is it that when I was eight months pregnant people felt the need to approach a complete stranger and say "wow, you look like your about to pop." "Oh thanks I had no idea!"

And now that I have three children, why is it that everywhere I go at least one person, usually mid 40's and up, has to say "looks like you have your hands full." Yes, I know I look frazzled and tired and like my head might explode if one more of my children runs away from me, but again I ask why is it necessary to point it out?

Why can't everyone be like the sweet little mom at McDonalds last week who simply said "by the way, you look amazing." Is it weird that I love her even though I don't know her.
So this is my next question. Why don't we give each other more compliments? So many times I think "wow, she looks so cute today, or I really like her hair" yet all I do is walk by the person and smile. I've even said to myself before "just say it" but some how the words don't come out.
Now, I've had plenty of negative thoughts pop into my head that I would like to share but refrain from doing so because it seems like the right thing to do. Why can't I get myself to say all the good stuff? Am I alone in this dilemma?
Maybe you are all better people than me, but just the same I would like to challenge everyone, myself included, to say all the nice things that pop into our heads this week.

And since I think a post just isn't as fun without a picture, here is one just to show you all how we roll around here.

First timer

I was officially in my first car accident this afternoon. Really it was more like a bump, but the car behind me did make contact with our car. It really made me glad I drive a huge 7 passenger gas guzzler, because there's not so much as a scratch on our car. The other lady did have a few marks on her bumper but no real damage was done. Josh is slightly annoyed because I didn't get her info. But, there was a car in front of me that had broken down so I had already sat through several green lights and all I was thinking about was that I was going to be late picking up Samm from school. Yes I know it was irresponsible of me, but I can't do anything about it now. And now a few hours later I think Josh is going to be a little more than slightly annoyed when I tell him my neck is feeling a little bit tight. I guess I should probably take the kids into the doctor just to get them checked out.

No cheese for me

For those of you who don't know, I have not been able to eat any dairy for the last several weeks. Even the slightest amount causes Macy to have horrible screaming fits.

At first I didn't think I would be able to do it..."she'll just have to be gassy" I thought. Then, after a few late nights of pacing back and forth while she screamed I decided I could do without it.

And now, I'm really doing pretty well with it. I like milk, but other than the fact that it is in everything (I had no idea until I started checking labels) it hasn't been too hard to give up. I've even stopped craving cheese.

Then, last night Josh told the kids we could go get ice cream because they ate so good, and I had the hardest time not licking the chocolate goodness spilling over James' enormous cone.

Once we got there Josh did feel pretty bad, because he had forgotten all about the fact that I couldn't have any. But it sure didn't stop him from enjoying a huge bowl of cheesecake and birthday cake ice cream!

Big is Beautiful

Macy had her two month checkup today (she's actually 2 1/2 months I'm just a little behind.) and my big girl weighed in at a whopping 14lbs! I should have known something was up when we left the hospital and she had already put on some weight. I have to say though, she is a beautiful 14lbs. She also started sleeping through the night last week. Hurray for eight hours of sleep!
